About

UM Frost Salsa Orchestra’s annual spring concert celebrates the Music of the Americas in jazz and salsa traditions with well loved songs such as “Alma Llanera” (considered by many to be Venezuela’s second national anthem), “El Día Que Me Quieras” (made famous by Argentinian tango singer Carlos Gardel), and a number of famed rancheras from Mexico such as “Cielito Lindo” and “La Negra Mariachi.” Salsa singer Luis Serrano will be featured, along with members of the Frost vocal jazz vocal program. In addition, compositions by Alberto De La Reguera, John Daversa and Frost student/Latin Grammy nominee Rafael Picolotto de Lima are showcased…including two works featuring percussionist extraordinaire Svet Stoyanov, using Bulgarian and Brazilian folk music elements in an eclectic mix.
