At 9 p.m., jazz flautist Bradley Leighton will take the stage. A funky fusion of styles will be ignited as Leighton introduces his partner for the night, Jason Miles, a Grammy award winning contemporary jazz artist. “He [Miles] is an extra special treat for the festival attendees,” said John Starr, General Manager of WXJZ Smooth Jazz 100.9. Miles has worked with legendary artists including Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson and Miles Davis, among others. Leighton, a Best Jazz Album nominee, is a classically trained musician who believes in the funkier, fun side of music. Let Leighton and Miles take you on a musical journey as you enjoy the smooth sounds of jazz and Leighton’s alto flute. These musical treats are absolutely free and open to the public.
The 5th Annual Downtown Jazz Festival is produced by the City of Gainesville Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs in cooperation with Smooth Jazz 100.9. It is an integral part of the award-winning Downtown Festival & Art Show, North Florida’s premier fall festival of the arts, ranked No. 28 out of more than 10,000 art and craft shows in the country by Sunshine Artist Magazine. For more than two decades, the festival has provided visitors with a tradition of excellence in art, music, and fun. Whether it’s a fun-filled day of shopping or a quiet evening of music under the stars, the festival never disappoints. Don’t miss out on an opportunity to support today’s up-and-comers and tomorrow’s legends.
