“For 25 years our mission has been to keep jazz alive in northeast Florida,” said NEFJA president Muriel McCoy. “This festival celebrates what we have been able to accomplish over the years. We’ve made live jazz accessible in our area by presenting almost 100 concerts showcasing some of the finest jazz musicians in the country and equally important, we’ve been able to provide 38 scholarships to some very talented students. These young people are the future of jazz.”
NEFJA’s 2012 Jazz Festival line-up includes Marcus Roberts, Jason Marsalis, Rodney Jordan, Wallace Roney, Antoine Roney, John Lumpkin, Doug Carn, Taeko Fukao, Mercedes Beckman, Ray Callender, Kenny MacKenzie, Miguel Alvarado, Rob Whiting, Jay Messick, Lee & Sallie Quick, Juan Rolan and Daniel Rolan.
“We’ve got a great combination of nationally known recording artists and the best local jazz musicians,” said McCoy. “It’s going to be a magical day with non-stop music on two different stages.”
